Today I met a very nice gentleman that lives in Purcellville, Virginia, and he has a roof leak right where the roof and the wall meet right about this approximate area. And the only time this leaks occurs is when there is a heavy downpour or a wind driven rain towards the home.

So during my inspection I told the homeowner the vinyl siding on your next door neighbor’s home is on the verge of coming off, and that’s one source of the leak, but then also where your roof meets up against the wall the contractor who originally installed your roof, he put nails into the step flashing and that’s the other source of the problem.

He said to me, “Steve, put together a proposal for the roof repair work and then also give me another price for the vinyl siding.” And when he mentioned it me, I thought he was going to give the proposal to the next door neighbor because that is their responsibility. And when he saw my proposal he said. “Okay, Steve, let’s do it. I’ll take care of everything. The next door neighbor has a lot of personal issues going on so I will take care of the vinyl siding repair to their home.”

So the first thing we needed to do was remove all the roofing material where the roof and the wall meet, install new aluminum step flashing, and re-shingle this area. The vinyl siding had to come off, and then we’re going to install Ice and Water Shield to the whole wall and we’ll also go behind the wood fascia as well.
