Hamilton Roof Repair

Video of a Hamilton roof repair job that could have been prevented by properly flashing the roof vent pipe

I’m in Hamilton for a roof repair due to several different leaks that this homeowner’s having.

The first problem that they’re having is improper installation of roof pipe flashing, and they put nails into the flashing here, and then they tarred it, and that’s a problem that will cause leakage.

The way that happens is when it rains, water pours over the shingles, goes underneath the flashing, then finds the nail and that will cause leakage to a lower point of the roof.

So what we need to do to correct this problem is remove all these shingles, remove this roof pipe flashing because they have nails fastened into the flashing incorrectly, plus they have a nail going through the flashing underneath this shingle.

After we replace this flashing, we then apply a Geocel tripolymer sealant to the flashing surface and then we embed our pre-cut shingles into the Geocel tripolymer sealant for 100 percent adhesion. Then when we shingle this area, we make sure that we don’t put any nails into the flashing.

Another problem that they’re having here with this Hamilton home for roof repair is at one time this gutter was down resting up against the roof and there’s a hole in the roof and that’s because the gutter was penetrating through the shingle, that’s one problem that will cause leakage directly below.

Plus here, you see bare wood, you should never see that. There should always be metal flashing there and the flashing that should be used is called step flashing and it’s shaped like an ‘L’. So, part of that ‘L’ goes underneath the shingles on the upper roof and the other part of that ‘L’ flashing goes underneath these shingles.

Once the flashing is installed, then we can re-shingle this whole entire area and then everything will be nice and watertight with no leaks. To request a free Hamilton roof repair estimate, please fill out our contact form.
